Francesca Lisette, Dodie Bellamy and I will all be reading at a house in Berkeley. Dodie wrote a blog post about it and now I’m totally flattered.

Souvenir - My Dream
I recorded this a long time ago. It’s probably one of my favorite things I’ve done.
Crystal Castles with their latest “Plague”
-Jenny
HT: The thing I love about CC is their lack of subtlety. And the wash.
Slow Magic - ‘On Yr Side’
This is a summery jam with a cast of looming clouds, glo fi with shadows of darkness. ’On Yr Side’ is the follow up to the ▲ album (yes ▲.) It’s Slow Magic progressing chillwave with driving beats and distinct textures - it’s also wonderful.
‘On Yr Side’ is from an upcoming LP.
HT: It’s just so silky. Kinda miss the age of endless chillwave.
Work Drugs - Boogie Lights
HT: So on a Work Drugs bender right now. It doesn’t get more chill than this.

Laser Background - ‘Pinwheels’
Artist names can be very misleading. One such, Laser Background, might conjure badly photo-shopped kittens and unicorns pissing out rainbows, the kind of artwork that comes with zeitgeist synth music, but ‘Pinwheels’ isn’t a synth song or it least bit zeitgeist-y. If anything, it could be 20 years old.
Sounding like one of the quiet moments off Siamese Dreams, ‘Pinwheels’ is stoned and nostalgic. A whistled melody underling the slacker ethos, Philadelphia’s Andy Molholt manages to veil an infectious sunny-pop tune under a gauze of not-even-arsed.
‘Pinwheels’ is off Laser Backgrounds self-titled EP, out July 16th via Stroll On Records.
Also from the EP, here’s ‘Ghostman on Second’:

HT: I have a picture just like this. Fresh new summer jam.
Work Drugs - “Pluto”
Feeling the heat? Is it getting to be too much? Don’t worry Work Drugs have come to save you with their new single “Pluto”. The song is about a love interest from long ago that can’t be recognized now. The new single appears on their upcoming release Absolute Bearing (pre-order it now). Having been long time fans of the guys, this tune is one of their radio-friendly. Most of it comes from the hook in the chorus (which is one of their strongest). At the same time, they manage to stay true to their signature sound. Tune in and let the song take you off to a far away beach.
HT: New favorite band? Maybe.
