guys, why can’t pitchfork just, like, i don’t know, enjoy the music they’re reviewing? i’m asking because i just read the review of craft spells’ idle labor (i know it’s been out forever, but anyway, i’m just getting excited to see the band in may)..and despite the reviewer’s lukewarm 7.7 (wtf?), you get the sense that he was just reaching to build some narrative within his review about justin vallesteros building a narrative about heartbreak and bedsitting or whatever, and then the reviewer forgot to not listen to the record in his headphones and put it on his stereo and turn it up and dance. this is a total rant. the moral of my story is: enjoy music.

So Far 2 Go (Feat. Steffaloo)

bitzlbitzlr:

Chrome Sparks with Steffaloo - ‘So Far 2 Go’

Oh it must be, em, days since I posted a tune featuring Steffaloo, but it has been a while longer since we’ve heard from Chrome Sparks. Steph Thompson added her spectrals to My <3, last year’s glistening seven track EP by Jeremy Malvin. The pair have reunited on ‘So Far 2 Go’. Lucent vocals and beat-focused synth pop, their’s is a perfect musical marriage - get it together you guys.

‘So Far 2 Go’ is taken from Portal Mixtape #3: SXSW Sampler.

HT: OH MY GOODNESS. Let the summer vibes flow. I think this is the first real summer hit. It’s just perfect for topless sunbathing with yr homies in the luscious hills of the Bay Area. (If you didn’t know, the Bay Area, CA, is THE place to be from now on. Move here!)

Brooklyn Celista

smokedontsmoke:

Celista - Brooklyn

Celista says their from Iceland. I wonder if the idea of Brooklyn is as cool to Icelanders as the idea of Iceland is to Brooklynites? Whatever the case, this track is a smooth and beautiful as you could hope any song called Brooklyn would be. And if I had to guess, it sounds an awful lot like a Biggie sample, which, if that’s the case, what a day it is for this song.

This is the first sound of an upcoming LP. Cop the EP here.

Yosemite // 102

Yosemite
is Eugene Brockmuller and Cameron Smith from Melbourne. They have recently popped up on the cloud and have produced two quality pieces so far. This one is a super slow motion 4/4 dance track. Using screwed guitar chords and and bells they incorporate Mount Kimbie inspired tom drum clicks and short vocal samples. The best part comes towards the end when slow pulsing synths are introduced gently. [photo]

3 Small Words (Josie and the Pussycats Cover) unouomedude

summertimeinhell:

I really want another Unouomedude album.

neo-noir:

Unouomedude covers Josie And The Pussycats’ 3 Small Words. He replaces the most annoying part of it (the vocals in the verses) with a completely perfect version that sounds like a lost Blink 182 B-Side, so you better fucking listen up. Download.

HT: For real. Who wrote this song? Anyway, yes, I can’t wait for a new Unouomedude release. It’s been too long. Still vibin to Island Summer.

CSLSX & I Break Horses - Violent Sea

verbreverb:

CSLSX & I Break Horses - Violent Sea

The violet ballads of the ocean underbelly took to the ceiling of the sea howling like some incomprehensible breach. To the ostracized and the lonesome disappeared, the leave behind nothing, the violet took to them like chain-smokers smoke, stepped in through their fire escapes, and seeped into their bodily alleyways. The violent sea-sunken violet. “Violent Sea” is the intertwine between CSLSX and I Break Horses.

Still Left With Me

bitzlbitzlr:

Craft Spells - ‘Still Left With Me’

Taking a bit of synthy excursion, Justin Vallesteros casts a shimmering sheen with the follow up to last year’s Idle Labor LP. Craft Spells will release an EP called Gallery via Captured Tracks sometime in May. ‘Still Left With Me’ is the tasty lead single. While still retro-minded, it’s less twee than Idle Labor more driven and reliant on hooks and assured songwriting.

Gallery EP - tracklist

‘Still Left with Me’
‘Warmth’
‘Burst’
‘Leave My Shadow’
‘Sun Trails’
‘Gallery’

Basically, I already know that this song or another from Craft Spells’ new EP will be one of my favorites of the year. Super excited to see them with the Drums in May!! YES. (thanks bitzlr)

Tonight’s been weird and I’m still awake to experience it. This track pairs up nicely though and all I wanna do is just thank Mat Cothran.

THIS IS FUCKING AMAZING. The best I’ve heard from Mat Cothran (and that’s a big deal since everything he does is crazy good).
