Taragana Pyjarama — “Girls”
A droned beginning, but finally picking up, we’re immediately carried off by a blended percussion & bass. It’s all static until samples begin to cloud the air. Zoning out for a moment, but a lead synth makes its way up front and, at this point, there’s no reason to try and stop soundtracking this all to various memories we have. A quicker spin on most, but it’s still very fitting and we’re as accepting as ever.
Taragana Pyjarama released his self-titled EP in early April with Fool House. With everyone’s various stance on ‘chillwave’, it’s not easy to say where the certain sound is headed. Those with slightly negative views probably hope for fewer releases, but with this release, I can’t imagine why one wouldn’t want to see a full-length out of Taragana Pyjarama.

Hard to say. Great.
unouomedude’s island summer came on and reminded how fantastic summer 2010 was.
I miss my closest friend, and now I cling to rocks and wind, it’s a precious thing we lost.
BEST ALBUM EVER MAN.
“In A Volcano” - Cross Record
Well, thanks to Jordan (Mutual Benefit), I have a pleasant little EP to carry me through this rainy day in Chicago… The short & sweet EP “Ring Bell” is by a young lady named Emily Cross, who apparently spent two weeks in Florida recording this.
… since I can’t be at the beach, I’ll just have to pretend.
Download the EP “Ring Bell” and a few other recordings at her BANDCAMP.
ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME? THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING I’VE HEARD IN A YEAR.

Junior Boys - Banana Ripple (The Field Remix)
For those of us—like myself—that fawned over and continually revisit The Field’s scarily good releases From Here We Go Sublime and Yesterday and Today (proof of such lofty claims found here and here), I have some great news. Axel Willner, the sole force behind the genre-bending project, has a new remix for us all of Junior Boys’ “Banana Ripple”, off of their brandie new album It’s All True. I still haven’t gotten around to listening to the album or the original track from which this was created, but after listening to Willner’s re-working of it, I have absolutely no choice but to sit down and give the record a spin. It’s propulsive, exotic and immersive, like being quickly flashed a series of images of a fireside sunset luau. And unlike most electronic music of this variety, Axel’s music surrounds your consciousness rather than attack it, and that’s why I’ll continue to follow him down whatever musical paths he forges.
This is the club mix in my mind. Bravo.

USF — Forever Wading
Just in time to usher in the summer, the duo formerly known as Universal Studios Florida have emerged from their Seattle hideaway to bring us a killer double-header for the Deathbomb Digital Singles Club. A-side “Forever Wading” is a joyous ode to the warm weather months, rolling through thickets of tribal drumwork and pitch-skewed vocals before reaching a colossal, laser-show-worthy finale.

There’s always something burning
SEAM makes me think of my first year of undergrad.
Amid our clouded reality and foggy fiction, we voluntarily embrace our dusky circumstances. Playful and childish, we kiss the subtle hints of mutual infatuation. Our hands, frozen and finicky, move languidly before our eyes - phantasmagoric, surreal specks. We would close our eyes and search - our voices carrying over the icy landscape. Once we were certain that we were enveloped in isolation, you would recite sonnets quietly - hushed and timid - a superb shaky speech. It was at this moment you would take rest upon the bitter altar. There I beheld your being - your heart, open and pulsating, slowly began to writhe in betwixt my fingers. Warm and surging, your confessional cadence entirely composed for me. Your callous and cursed playmate. Shameless scurrilous suitor.
Magic Fades playfully flirts with r&b while creating celestial, experimental pop. Guitar solos will wail and scream while a steady, contained beat accents near-hushed vocals. Fantastically entrancing and hopelessly addicting, there is a hint of yearning - an aching touched with forlorn instrumentation.Bonus:

Alela Diane — Long Way Down
I’m a bit late to the game, but Alela Diane’s Alela Diane & Wild Divine has been on repeat for the past couple of internet-less days for me. A huge difference compared to the more folksy leanings of her previous work, Diane has crafted some incredible country-pop songs here that rival some of Neko Case’s best work. The album has been out for some time now on Rough Trade, and it comes highly recommended.

Trouble Books & Mark McGuire — Floating Through Summer
Guitar wizard/Boy Attractions object of obsession Mark McGuire recently teamed up with fellow Clevelanders Trouble Books for the straightforwardly titled Trouble Books & Mark McGuire. The LP is a bit of a creative shift for McGuire, as it’s one of the first times you’ll hear his interstellar drones coupled with some honest-to-god vocals. The LP is currently sold out on Bark and Hiss (a second pressing is on the way), but in the meantime you can sample “Floating Through Summer”, a gauzy piece of drone-pop that sounds suspiciously like Emeralds fan-favorite “Candy Shoppe” (not that I’m complaining).

crazy right?
Witch Gardens - “Baby Got A Haircut”
Short, sweet, and perfect for summer, this debut Witch Gardens release has been my go-to album lately, hands down. Don’t let the name fool you, the Seattle four-piece band is all about fun, catchy, nostalgic lo-fi pop-rock. Alice Agatha Branch & Christ will be released on cassette just in time for the solstice, from none other than Brian Wood of Wonder Beard Tapes. According to the press release, “the boy-girl-girl-girl group has been called the cutest band in Seattle more times than they can count.”
“Baby Got A Haircut” is the album’s wild and infectious closer, and also one of the most wonderfully nostalgic tracks out of the bunch. The girls belt out the lyrics in unison over a fairly simple sixties-rock melody with surprisingly effective results. The whole album is barely over twenty minutes long, so you absolutely have no excuse not to listen to it at least once.
If you are interested in getting your hands on one of the 50 limited edition tapes, I strongly suggest you pre-order yours from Wonder Beard Tapes as Witch Gardens could easily become one of the hottest little indie bands on the West Coast. The cassettes are scheduled to ship on June 20.
Also, if you are not following @witchgardens on Twitter you are seriously missing out on life.

[PREMIERE] Bermuda Bonnie — “Evil”
Uneasy feelings brought out and followed by a distant percussion, soon to be narrated by noise soaked vocals of summertime anecdotes, come together here. The faded synths give in to a backdrop of boundless emotions, where we try to connect it to an existentialism-esque feel that this narrative also ends up going along with, only to decide that there isn’t all that much here and we just want to ‘stay up all night long, conjure up a script, and smoke lots of cigarettes.’
Rebecca Huston, the solo cat behind Bermuda Bonnie out of Brooklyn, NY, enjoys a lot of the little things in life. So much that it tags along into her music. Her latest single, “Evil”, is no exception. The second single to preface Bermuda Bonnie’s eventual future album follows the recently buzzed “Kohl’s” and both add an excitement to the future album. Remixes are also on the way, but bigger things are in sight. With a couple of shows planned already, Rebecca hopes to take her project out to wider exposure, hopping towns by night, and spreading her love of beaches & synths.
